Why Satellite Tracking is Different

Most tracking = basic port updates. Gateway = Real-time satellite tracking from space.

Orbital AIS Network

Satellites track AIS signals from thousands of vessels globally. Real vessel positions from space, not estimates.

AI Satellite Analysis

AI analyzes satellite tracking data, weather patterns, and port congestion to predict delays 3-7 days ahead.

Document Access

All shipping documents, customs papers, and certificates available instantly in your tracking portal.

Exception Management

Instant alerts for delays, route changes, or customs holds with recommended actions to minimize impact.

Container Tracking FAQ

Common questions about satellite container tracking

Do I need to be a Gateway customer to track containers?

Yes. Gateway satellite tracking is included with every shipment we move for our customers. It is not a standalone product and is not offered to the general public. Submit your company details on this page and a Gateway rep will reach out within one business day to open your account.

Can a freight forwarder, NVOCC, or 3PL become a Gateway customer?

No. Gateway Lines is itself an ocean freight forwarder and NVOCC, so onboarding other forwarders, NVOCCs, customs brokers, 3PLs, agents, or resellers would be a direct conflict of interest and expose our customers' shipment data, rates, and lane information to misuse. We only accept cargo owners (importers and exporters shipping their own goods).

What is satellite container tracking?

Satellite container tracking uses orbital AIS (Automatic Identification System) satellites to track vessel positions from space in real-time. Unlike traditional port-based tracking that only updates when ships reach ports, satellite tracking provides continuous position updates every 5–10 minutes anywhere in the world, including mid-ocean.

How does tracking work once I am a Gateway customer?

Every container we move for you is automatically enrolled in satellite tracking from the moment it is gated in at origin. You see live vessel position, AI-predicted ETA, port congestion, customs status, Last Free Day countdowns and milestone alerts directly in your Gateway portal, no lookups required.

How accurate is satellite container tracking?

Satellite AIS tracking is highly accurate, providing vessel positions within meters. Our orbital satellite constellation captures AIS signals every 5–10 minutes globally, combined with AI analysis for 93%+ accurate ETA predictions.

Can I track multiple containers at once?

Yes. Gateway customers see every active container in a single dashboard with real-time satellite positions, customs status and automated alerts for each shipment.

What carriers does satellite tracking support?

Every major ocean carrier including Maersk, MSC, CMA CGM, COSCO, Hapag-Lloyd, ONE, Evergreen, Yang Ming, HMM, OOCL, ZIM and 200+ others. Any vessel with an AIS transponder is tracked from space.
